The secret is Consistency
Why picking one battle and sticking to it for 10+ years might be the only real secret to achieving big goals.
Consistency is the most important thing. And I say this deliberately, knowing that I have not been consistent with my own posts here either. So I guess we all have work to do on that front.
The 10 Year Time Frame
The thing is, it is actually theoretically simple to achieve almost anything you want, as long as you are truly consistent over a long enough time frame.
Want to be famous? Just post on social media every day for the next 10 years.
Want to run a marathon in under three hours? No problem, just run three to four times a week for the next 10 years.
Want to become a millionaire? Sure, just get a sales job and call 100 people a day for the next 10 years.
Picking your battle
You see, the plan is actually not the secret. Picking one battle and sticking to it for as long as it takes is. And for me personally, that is actually quite a scary thought. Because I know that all of the above would be possible and totally within my abilities. But picking a battle and actually sticking to it? That is the hard part.
But if there is one, I think it is this: accept that consistency in one thing can get you anything you want within 10 years or more. Figure out what you actually want, or more precisely, what you would be willing to make that sacrifice for. And then start, because you will be in it for the long haul anyway. As for how to actually stay consistent, I dont think there is a silver bullet. My best guess is that for most people it only becomes truly possible once the thing you are pursuing is bigger than yourself. A real purpose. A mission. Something that goes beyond personal gain.
